OutLOOK
1401 Presque Isle Ave

Our mission is to serve as an organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning graduate, undergraduate, and non-traditional students, who have banded together in order to promote a sense of community in a comfortable and secure atmosphere and attend to the social, emotional, and political needs of the homosexual, bisexual, transgender and queer population.

OUTLook also seeks to provide such services as advocacy, information, referrals, and general support not only to its members but also for the GLBTQ population at large. LGBTQA faculty, staff, non-students, and friends of the queer population are welcome.

We encourage visibility & awareness throughout the campus and local communities. In a divisive society, we try to open a dialogue in which the resignation and complacency of homophobia and transphobia does not exist. Our activities include the presentation of films, entertainers, and nationally respected speakers, as well as the sponsorship and participation in informational workshops and discussions.

OUTLook also sponsors projects such as The Speaker's Bureau, a group of queer students who speak on campus in classes and training programs about the experiences and problems of being homosexual, bisexual, or transgender. OUTlook also presents films that deal with the issues faced by the queer community, and hosts dances, and meets regularly throughout the academic year.

Our goals are constantly changing, but we always are focused on our commitment to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community. This season we will focus on our members. Our members are diverse. It is our aim to be a diverse and all-inclusive community. Although the majority of our members are here at Northern Michigan University, alumni reside throughout the United States and abroad.
